Eldon and Cora Schmidt of rural Newton will celebrate their 60th anniversary with an open house for friends and relatives from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Learning Center of the Koerner Heights Church, 320 N. Meridian Road, Newton.
Eldon Schmidt and Cora Gladys Voth were married Sept. 4, 1941, at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel.
The couple have been involved with farming their entire married life. He is retired from work with Guerdon Industries and the Bethesda Home in Goessel and is employed part-time at the Mennonite Heritage Museum in Goessel. She has worked as a seamstress for many years.
The open house will be hosted by the couple’s five children: Bryce and wife Evelyn of Overland Park, Gareth and wife Charlotte of Hillsboro, Merrill and wife Sandy of Hillsboro, Colleen and husband Todd Gillespie of Asheville, N.C., and Bradford and wife Terrie of Oceanside, Calif.
The Schmidts have 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren..
