DEATHS: Charles Gibbs, 77

Charles Gibbs, 77, former county road and bridge department employee, died Aug. 15 at his residence in Peabody.


The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Peabody with Robert Kloth of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wichita officiating. Burial was at Prairie Lawn Cemetery near Peabody.


Charles Gibbs was born Oct. 9, 1923, to Orville and Edith Sawtelle Gibbs in Peabody. On June 6, 1925, he was married to Florence Chapple, who survives.


He is also survived by two daughters, Cynthia Gibbs of Peabody and Louise Matthews of Harrisville, R.I.; a sister, Gertrude Wasinger of Mooretown, N.J., and one step-granddaughter.


A memorial has been established with the Peabody Country Club.
