WEDDINGS: Dawson, Duerksen exchange vows

Charla Gay Dawson and Shane Marshall Duerksen were married at 5:30 p.m. May 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood Falls.


Bruce Porter, pastor of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, and Pat Ireland officiated at the ceremony.


The bride is the daughter of Ken and Vicky Dawson of Cottonwood Falls. The groom is the son of Ron and Fran Duerksen of Lehigh.

Sturdy, friend of the bride. Best man was Jeremy Duerksen, cousin of the bridegroom.


The bride’s other attendants were Kendra Dawson, sister of the bride, Mary Riley, friend of the bride, and Courtney Duerksen, sister of the bridegroom.


The groomsmen were Matt Jost and Troy Hett, friends of the groom, and Rodean Duerksen, uncle of the bridegroom.


The ring bearer was Trevor Duerksen, cousin of the bridegroom. The flower girl was Kacey DeWeese, friend of the bride.


Candlelighters were Logan Duerksen and Jim Lauer, cousins of the bride and groom. Ushers were Rob and Jared Koger, cousins of the bride, and Tim Unruh and Adam Kleiber, friends of the groom.


Pianist was Jamie Pittman and soloist was Connie Wedel. The guest book attendant was Jenna Koger and the gift attendant was Amanda Dellinger.


Special guests were Carl and Charlotte Dawson and Evan Koger, grandparents of the bride, and Leroy and Viola Ratzlaff and Lovisa Duerksen, grandparents of the bridegroom.


The bride wore a princess-style strapless gown of white bridal satin and carried a bouquet of white roses, white lilacs and white peonies. The guests threw peony petals, which were picked from the gardens of family and friends.


After the ceremony, the bride and groom were taken to the buffet and reception at the Grand Central Hotel by a horse-drawn carriage. Reception servers were Stacey Poe, Heather Arndt, Stephanie Reed and Erica Miller.


The couple took a honeymoon to Grand Cayman.


The bride graduated from Chase County High School. She attended Kansas State University and graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in nursing. She is a registered nurse at Newman Memorial County Hospital.


The groom graduated from Hillsboro High School. He attended Kansas State University and is employed by Professional Cleaning Systems Inc. in Lehigh.


They are at home at 2126 Diamond Road in Hillsboro.
