The American Cancer Society 2001 Marion County Relay for Life will be held June 8 through June 9 at the Tabor College track.
This 12-hour event is a fun way to join with others in the community in the fight against cancer and to raise funds for American Cancer Society research and programs. Participants can celebrate those lives being saved from cancer and remember those lost.
Teams form and raise money prior to the relay, then come together to camp out and enjoy the activities and celebration of life.
This year’s Relay for Life organizers have added several events to make the all-night schedule more appealing.
“I think it will make it more interesting for the people to stay out there all night,” Elaine Jantzen said. “We didn’t do too well at that last year, which was our first all-nighter.”
The special activities begin at 7 p.m. Friday with the cancer survivors’ lap, followed by the Luminaria ceremony at 10 p.m. and Pizza Hut pizza at midnight. On Saturday, the Lions Club will serve breakfast at 6 a.m., with the event closing at 7 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded throughout the night to team members. Participants will receive a complimentary T-shirt.
