DEATHS: Samuel E. Mohn, 83

Samuel E. Mohn, 83, a machinist at Hesston Corporation, died May 5 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.


The funeral was May 8 at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church with pastor R. Laney Kuhn officiating. Mohn was cremated.


He was born Oct. 18, 1917, to Emanuel Mohn and Mary Dienes in Ramona. On May 20, 1947, he was married to Myrtle Voth, who survives.


He is also survived by a daughter, Carolyn Webster of McPherson, a grandchild and three great-grandchildren.


Memorials have been established with the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and Parkside Homes.




James E. Peters, 20




James E. “Jimmie” Peters, 20, an aviation student, died May 6 in Wichita.


The funeral will be held today at the Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion with Michael Linn officiating. His inurnment will take place at a later date.


He was born June 9, 1980, to Edwin Earl Peters and the late Judith DeVore in Newton.


He is survived by his father, Edwin Earl Peters, and wife Sally of Marion; his grandparents, Loyd and Freida Peters of Richmond; and three half sisters, Beverly House of Belle Plain, Jane Bolte of Newton and Cindy Magers of Paola.


A Jimmie Peters Memorial Fund has been established.




Donald A. Sklenar, 68




Donald A. Sklenar, 68, a cabinet maker and Air Force veteran, died May 7 at the St. Luke Hospital in Marion.


The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 10, at the Holy Family Parish, St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Pilsen with military honors.


He was born July 30, 1932, to Joseph and Della (Campbell) Sklenar in Council Grove. On Dec. 28, 1954, he was married to Betty McVicker, who survives.


He is also survived by a son, Marty Sklenar of Mulvane; a daughter, Rita Van Orden of Mulvane; two brothers, Joe Sklenar and Lloyd Sklenar, both of Marion; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.


A memorial fund has been established for the planting of trees at the Marion County Lake in the public uses area.




Ernest P. Suderman, 96




Ernest P. Suderman, 96, a farmer, died May 1 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.


The funeral was May 6 at the Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro with pastor Tim Kliewer officiating. Burial was in the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Hillsboro.


He was born Jan. 4, 1905, to Peter Suderman and Marie Penner in Hillsboro. On May 31, 1933, he was married to Edna Ruth Cornelsen, who predeceased him in 1995.


He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Goering and husband Jim of North Newton; a sister, Elsie Nickel of Hillsboro; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.


A memorial fund has been established with Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.
