Central National plans downtown expansion

The Hillsboro branch of Central National Bank is preparing to expand in a new location, according to Mike Padgett, marketing president for the local institution.

The CNB board of directors approved earlier this month a plan to renovate the building at 206 N. Main, most recently home to the Body Shop and temporary home for Rod’s Tire & Service.

The bank is currently located at 111 S. Main.

“We’re looking to expand our services in Hillsboro and that’s going to require a bigger facility,” Padgett said.

The bank intends to add a drive-through window at its new location as well as other services.

“Hillsboro is growing and we want to grow along with the community,” he said. “We’re looking forward to it. I’m excited about it.”

Padgett said that if all goes according to plan, renovation will begin in late summer or fall and the project should be completed by late spring 2002.

Padgett said he feels the move will be good for the bank as well as for the downtown business community.

“That part of Main Street may change dramatically with the new post office down there,” he said. “I’m sure when we get done with that building it will look slightly different than the way it does today.”

Central National Bank has branches in 21 Kansas communities and one in Nebraska. It has operated in Hillsboro since the early 1990s.
