Harold Ewert, 83


Harold Lemoine Ewert, 83, former Marion County employee, died March 17 at Peabody Community Living Center.


The funeral will be today at Eastmoor United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery.


He was born Aug. 16, 1916, to Albert “Bert” and Anna Welsh Ewert at Aulne. On Aug. 10, 1941, he was married to Doris Kline of Marion, who survives.


He is also survived by four sons, Max and wife Gerri of Gunnison, Colo.; Wayne and wife Linda of Billings, Mont.; Gene and wife Kathy of Neodesha; Gary and wife Elaine of Marion; one daughter, Donna Hajek and husband Jerome of Marion; a brother, Ralph Ewert of Peabody; two sisters, Laura Slocombe and Edna Ewert, both of Peabody; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Memorials may be sent to Eastmoor United Methodist Church or Development Department, Attn: Alzheimer’s or Dementia Unit, 1901 E. First, Newton.




Velma M. Socolofsky, 89


Velma M. Socolofsky, 89, a former cafeteria worker, died March 13 at Marion Manor.


The funeral was March 16 at Strassburg Baptist Church with pastor Don Mesburn officiating. Burial was at Lewis Cemetery in Ramona.


She was born Dec. 5, 1911, to William and Johanna (Kaiser) Meyer at Lost Springs. On Nov. 2, 1932, she married Clarence Socolofsky, who predeceased her in 1965.


She is survived by three sons, Lowell of Bellevue, Neb.; James of rural Marion and Harold of Selida, Colo.; two brothers, Ted Meyer of Hope and Wilmer Meyer of Wichita; a sister, Selma Pritz of Lost Springs; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.


A memorial was established with Strassburg Baptist Church.
