WEB FLASH: Tabor advances to 2nd round at NAIA (March 7)

The Tabor College Bluejays advanced to the second round of the NAIA Division II Men’s National Tournament with a 79-76 win over Milligan (Tenn.) College Wednesday afternoon in Point Lookout, Mo.

Tabor started strong, leading by as many as 17 in the first half. Milligan came back to close the gap to four points by halftime, 40-36. The Jays were 10-of-17 (58 percent) from behind the arc during the first period.

In the second half, Tabor again stretched the lead to double digits and led by 12 points with 13 minutes to play. But Milligan again made a late charge and made the game close at the end, thanks in part to some Tabor turnovers. Tyson Ratzlaff scored eight crucial points down the stretch to help preserve the win for the Bluejays.

Tabor didn’t shoot a free throw until the last four and a half minutes of the game.

Kevin Koehn was on fire for Tabor, scoring 25 points, including six 3-pointers. Eric Driggers scored 15 points, including some big shots in the first half. Scott Brubacher also scored in double figures with 10.

Micah Ratzlaff, Tabor’s leading scorer, got in foul trouble and played only 19 minutes. He scored eight points.

With the win, Tabor (23-9) advances to the Sweet 16 and will play Northwestern College from Iowa at 9 a.m. Friday.
