A new face has joined the Marion business community.

Lin Slifer of Marion said he has always wanted to own his own business. When the opportunity arose, he left his 12-year position as an electrician at Elcon in Hillsboro to open LinCo Electrical Services and Contracting.

“I had lots of community encouragement to step out and do this, so I thought it is worth a try,” Slifer said.

His business offers residential and commercial wiring as well as farm overhead work. He hopes to expand gradually.

“I want to keep basic stock inventory of things that I will be using, and then expand as the company grows,” he said.

He offers security and fire alarm systems for commercial use, and said he hopes to expand into phone and computer cables.

“Right now, we offer everything from light fixtures to motor-control centers,” Slifer said.

He said he will be available to the public “anytime they need me.” Office hours are 8-12 a.m. and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office number is: 620-382-3032. But he said he can also be contacted via fax (620-382-2196), cell phone (620-382-7890), or e-mail: linco@ southwind.net.

“I really do not want to work on Sundays, or every single Saturday,” Slifer said. “But I want to be there when I am needed. When things go down, I want to be available to my customers to get them back up and running.”

He graduated from Marion High School in 1981, attended Butler County Community College, and Central Kansas Vocational Technical School at Newton. He earned a certificate in carpentry and worked as a carpenter for a while, before going into the electrical field.

He has a master’s certificate from Block and Associates, is a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and the National Fire Protection Association.
