Mike Schmaderer, project director from Mid-States Energy Works, builders of Hillsboro’s new electrical substation, flips a knife switch with an insulated pole Monday as part of the process of energizing the new facility. Workers from KPL were on hand to get the substation on line. The new substation should all but eliminate the kind of power outages that frequently frustrated residents and businesses during the summer of 1999. The old substation, located at the water treatment plant, will be dismantled.
