Dedicated for strength and growth

Tabor College dedicated its new weight-training facility Friday morning with a brief program and ceremony at the school’s Campus Recreation Center. Attenders included a sizeable crowd of students, faculty and staff, people from the greater Hillsboro community and friends of the college. Participating in the program were: Judy Hiebert, vice president of student development; Tim McCarty, head football coach (above); Lyndon Vix, chair of the Tabor Board of Directors, Brad Doeden, the architect who designed the state-of-the-art facility; Brett Thiessen, student body president; and Larry Nikkel, college president. Students were affirmed for contributing the first $40,000 toward the $175,000 project from their student fees. Thiessen emphasized that the facility would be open to all students, not just athletes. Some 93 people donated money for the project. In a written statement, Don Brubacher, also commended the many volunteers from the community and throughout the Tabor alumni circle who donated time, material and skills to keep the project under budget.
