HHS freshmen win Marquette tournament

The Hillsboro High School freshman boys’ team rolled over Southeast of Saline, 55-36, to win the championship of the Marquette Freshman Tournament Saturday, Jan. 27.


HHS expanded its lead in every quarter and led by 10 points at half time, 27-17. An 18-11 advantage in the final period sealed the victory.


Tyler Peachey scored 13 points and Jared Fish 12 to pace the Trojans.


To reach the championship game, the Trojans defeated Ellinwood in the first round, 52-45, on Jan. 20, then beat Ell-Saline in the semifinals, 60-43, on Monday, Jan. 22.


The HHS freshmen team will participate in a four-team tournament next week in Moundridge.


They will open against the host team at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5. If they win, they play the winner of the Inman-Herington game at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 8.


If they lose, they play the Inman-Herington loser at 6 p.m. Feb. 8.
