WEDDINGS: Merrifield, Schroeder exchange vows Dec. 10

Susan Merrifield, Newton, and Rusten Schroeder, rural Newton, were married Sunday, Dec. 10, at Koerner Heights Church, Newton, with pastors Mark Isaac, Koerner Heights Church, and Corey Miller, Tabor Mennonite Church, Goessel, officiating the double-ring ceremony.

Parents of the couple are John and Alma Marrifield and Joyce Watts and the late David Schroeder of rural Newton.

Elizabeth Merrifield, Sterling, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Marianne Effa, Newton, Ruth Entz, Newton, and Marva Hiebert, Newton.

Brent Schroeder, Belgrade, Mont., brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Marcus Schroeder, Wichita, brother of the groom, Kyle Janzen, Hesston, and Phil Diller, Hesston.

The couple was escorted by each of their families. Ushers were Rick Pohelenz, Hesston, Dwight Erb, Moundridge, and Brice Powell, Broomfield, Colorado.

Gift carriers were Taryn Schroeder, Wichita, Scott Schroeder, Wichita, and Barclay Powell, Broomfield, Colorado, neices and nephews of the groom. Wedding coordinator was Sharon Diener, Newton.

Pianist was JoAnn Nickel, Goessel. Bass Guitarist was David Merrifield, Wichita. Acoustic Guitarist was Laurie Oswald, Newton. Soloist was Marva Hiebert, Newton.

The bride’s gown had ivory lace over ivory satin and long puff sleeves to a tapered point sweep train. The gown was designed by the bride and sewn by Cora Schmidt of Goessel. The bridal hat had a fingertip veil down the back, and a spray of ivory flowers over the right ear.

The bride carried a bouquet of silk ivory and burgandy roses over her mother’s bride’s Bible. The church was decorated with Christmas greenery and white lights.

A reception dinner was held after the ceremony at the church Learning Center, hosted by Daphne Ethington, Port Charlotte, Fla., and families of the couple.

Reception assistants were Nelson and Clarice Voth, Marie Nachtigall, Laurie Helper, Shaunda Kuehn, and Della Regier.

The bride is a graduate of Newton High School and Tabor College. She is employed as a secretary at the Newton Medical Center Laboratory.

The groom is a graduate of Goessel High School and North Central Kansas Area Vo-Tech in Beloit. He is employed as a estimator at Kropf Lumber, Hesston.

Following the honeymoon to Table Rock Lake area of southwest Mo., the couple reside at 569 90th, Newton.

A rehearsal meal hosted by the couple was served at Koerner Heights Church Learning Center on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000.
