Hillsboro didn’t play like a No. 1 seed might be expected to play against a No. 8 seed. The Trojans struggled offensively but eventually prevailed over Ellsworth in the opening round of the Southeast of Saline Invitational Tournament, 49-43, Monday night.

Julie Hett led HHS with 13 points, Shannon Kroeker and Jill Hein each scored 10. Angela Herzet pulled down 12 rebounds to complement her seven points.

As a team, Hillsboro managed only 20 buckets in 76 attempts, including a 3-16 performance from behind the arc. They did pilfer the ball 21 times; Hein had six steals, and Hett and Kroeker added five each.

With the win, the Trojans move to 9-1 on the season and will play the host team, Southeast of Saline, at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, for the right to play for the championship.
