Tyler Weinbrenner scored 21 points to lead the Hillsboro Trojans to a 63-37 win over Marion Monday night in the opening round of the Trojan Classic tournament at Brown Gymnasium.

The Trojans were slowed in the early going by the Warriors’ zone defense, but led 14-8 after one quarter.

The momentum picked up in the second period. Fueled by its defense, Hillsboro broke the game open with a 17-2 run and a 31-10 lead at halftime.

HHS was never threatened in the second half and actually lengthened its lead in the final quarter. Weinbrenner scored 10 of his points in the last period, including six free throws.

Grant Brubacher returned to the lineup and scored 11 points before sitting out the final quarter.

With the win, Hillsboro evens its record at 5-5 and will advance to the seminfinals of the Trojan Classic on Friday. They will play the Belleville Buffaloes, who defeated Sunrise Academy 63-45 in their opener on Monday.

Game time will be 7:30 p.m.
