ORIGINALLY WRITTEN DR
With Wichita Collegiate clamping down in the first half on Hillsboro’s top three scorers this season — Jill Hein, Angela Herzet and Shannon Kroeker — the Trojans’ Julie Hett and Amber Hefley stepped up in the second half to lead Hillsboro to a 44-35 win in Wichita Tuesday night.

Hett scored all 13 of her points in a pivotal nine-minute stretch from 6:08 left in the third period through 5:18 left in the game to move Hillsboro from a 24-18 deficit to a 36-27 lead. Hefley came off the bench to chip in five of her 11 points over the same period.

The Trojans could have made their life easier if they had hit their free throws in the last quarter, making only 4-of-13 down the stretch, including two misses on the front end of a one-and-one.

With the win, Hillsboro moves to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in MCAA Mid Division play.

The boys, meanwhile, came back from an 8-0 deficit to lead at halftime, 26-25, on a last second 3-pointer by Shawn Hughbanks. But the Trojans came out flat in the second half and fell to the Spartans 57-44.

Grant Brubacher had 12 points for the game while Phillip Terrell added 10 points, all in the second half. But Hillsboro didn’t get much offensive support from anyone else.after intermission.

With the loss, Hillsboro stands a 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Mid Division.
