Jill Hein hit a 3-pointer from 22 feet out with 13.5 seconds left in the game to give the Trojans a 52-50 come-from-behind win over Lyons Tuesday night in Hillsboro.
Looking sluggish at the start, the Trojans trailed 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and 24-21 at halftime. The third quarter belonged to Hillsboro, though, as they outscored the visitors 18-10 to take a 39-34 lead into the final period.
Lyons came back to take a 48-44 lead with 2:12 to go when Jill Hein stepped up for Hillsboro. The 5-9 junior hit a 2-pointer and 3-pointer to put Hillsboro back on top. Lyons regained the lead for the last time with bucket down in the post with 41 seconds to play. After a couple of possession changes, Hillsboro got the ball back and called timeout with 17 serconds left. Hein took the pass and calmly launched her winning shot.
Hein finished with a game-high 21 and Angela Herzet added 15. With the win, Hillsboro moves to 3-1 for the season.
Meanwhile, the boys got off to a slow start, too, missing their first seven shots before Grant Brubacher scored with 4:52 to go in the first period. Hillsboro managed to pull ahead after one quarter, 14-11, but broke the game open in the next period, outscoring Lyons 24-10 with balanced scoring from six players.
Brubacher finished the game with a season-high 33 points as Hillsboro evened its season record at 2-2.
