A rumbling Toy Run

Nearly 60 bikes and cars-125 people in all-rumbled down the streets of Hillsboro Friday afternoon as part of the seventh annual Marion County Toy Run. Sponsored by Abate of Kansas District #9 and the Sons of the American Legion Squad #366, the purpose of the event is to collects toys for children in limited-income households. After the toys were dropped off at Hillsboro State Bank, a fund-raiser auction and chili feed at the American Legion building raised around $4,000 for the cause. The number of participants and the amount of money raised were both records, according to Ron Funk, one of the organizers. Forty-six Hillsboro businesses and organizations and 18 from Marion contributed toward the event. Other individuals and business supporters from as far away as McPherson, Salina, Hesston and Wichita also participated.
