Women’s playoff dreams end with opening game

The Tabor College women’s soccer team lost to Hastings 4-0 in the first round of the NAIA Region IV tournament in Hastings Thursday.

The Bluejays managed just one shot on goal against the speedy Hastings squad. Hastings had 21 shots.

“They were another level up,” said Tabor coach Don Brubacher.

The regular season KCAC champion Bluejays were the at-large team at the tournament. KCAC tournament champion Bethany was dropped 5-0 by College of St. Mary of Omaha.

Brubacher said the Bluejays didn’t seriously threaten the Hastings goal but that Tabor probably didn’t deserve to lose by four goals.

“We had the one shot on goal and several other offensives, but didn’t generate much offense. But even with all that, (the final score) was an unlucky outcome for us,” he said, noting that several unusual situations led to goals.

Tabor finished the season with a 15-4 record.
