Casey Barton headed home a corner kick in overtime to lift the Tabor College men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Bethany College in Hillsboro Saturday.

The win, combined with a 3-1 victory over St. Mary, was Tabor’s second of the week against two of the top KCAC teams. Tabor is now 11-2 on the season, 6-0 in league play.

“Both of those were big wins for us,” said Bluejay coach Nathan Wilkey.

Bethany tallied in the first 15 minutes of the first half to open the scoring Saturday. The Swedes led 1-0 at halftime.

Paul Raugust drove home an unassisted goal 10 minutes into the second period to knot the score. Neither team could find the net until the Bluejays converted on the set piece in overtime.

Damon Turkle floated the corner into the penalty box where Barton’s header sealed the Tabor win.

Bluejay goalie Joe Stutzman collected six saves in the first half and Mike Hartman grabbed three in the second half and overtime.

Stutzman collected 14 saves in the St. Mary game Tuesday, Oct. 10 in Hillsboro.

“He made a couple of big saves,” Wilkey said. “He came out and closed down angles quickly.”

Dylan Pohlman gave Tabor a 1-0 halftime lead on an assist from Barton. Barton put Tabor up 2-0 with a goal early in the second period.

David Fast, on an assist from Scott Brubacher, netted the final Bluejay goal with 15 minutes remaining. St. Mary scored its consolation goal near the end of the match.

Tabor faces two more KCAC favorites this week including a 4 p.m. home match against Friends Wednesday and an 8 p.m. game at Kansas Wesleyan Saturday.
