The Hillsboro High School volleyball team swept a pair of home matches from Wichita Collegiate Oct. 3 to improve their season record to 18-4.
The Trojans made quick work of Collegiate in the first match, defeating them 15-11, 15-3.
Coach Collette Burton said: “We played hard and we looked really good. We weren’t really too worried about Collegiate, but their scrappiness scared me a little bit.”
In the second match, Hillsboro started slowly, losing the first game 8-15.
The Trojans rallied and won the next two games 16-14, 17-15.
Burton said the girls got behind early in the second game.
“I was really proud of them for fighting so hard in the end and coming back,” she said. “In the third game, we did the same thing and we were down 7-14.
But they worked hard, came together as a team, got their confidence back up and ended up winning that one after fighting hard.”
Dionne Jost served 100 percent in the second match, and Julie Hett had 20 kills, with Angela Herzet adding 14 kills.
The Trojans were scheduled to play Lyons, Oct. 10.
Their next home meet will be the Hillsboro Invitational Oct. 14. Games begin at 9 a.m.
