Senior Scribbles

Seniors will be gathering at the Senior Center on Thursday to commemorate the 40th annual meeting of the Senior Citizens of Marion County.

A luncheon, music, words from visiting dignitaries, and the presence of past board members and those involved in the early history of the organization will highlight the afternoon.

A video “Preventing Cancer” will be shown at the center after the noon meal on Monday, Oct. 16.

The monthly covered-dish lunch is planned for noon, Wednesday, Oct. 18, with Senior Center Post Office available at 11 a.m. and Dr. Zafar at 11:15. The program, after lunch, will be Lou Greenhaw speaking on her recent trip to Paraguay to visit her son. “Paraguay Today” will highlight her experiences there.

The following volunteered their time at the senior center last week.

Kitchen: Gladys Jantz, Betty Bernhardt, Irma Groening, Millie Hanneman, Mildred Jantz, Judy Malin, Elaine Leppke, Mariann Unruh and Fern Unruh.

Meal drivers: Pearl and Velma Hadley and Roger and Lorraine Shumakes.

FISH Transportation: Marie Jost, Albert Fadenrecht, Art Unrau and Eldon Knak.

Senior Meals

Oct. 11: Ham and bean soup, coleslaw, cornbread, mandarin oranges.

Oct. 12: Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli, whole wheat roll, autumn poke cake.

Oct. 13: Chuck wagon steak, baked potato, spinach, whole wheat roll, fruit cocktail.

Oct. 16: BBQ meat balls, baked potato, seasoned cabbage, whole wheat roll, apricots.

Oct. 17: Chicken and rice, peas and carrots, biscuit, ambrosia.

Oct. 18: Covered dish.
