The Tabor College women’s soccer team collected four goals in the first 25 minutes in a 4-0 blanking of Sterling College in Sterling Saturday.

Melanie Kurtz scored the first Bluejay goal, assisted by Katie Whitcomb, eight minutes into the game. Whitcomb assisted on a Kathleen Stagg goal seven minutes later to put Tabor up 2-0.

Two unassisted goals, one by Xochitl Clark 20 minutes in, and the other by Sarah Dougherty at the 25 minute mark, closed the scoring for the game.

“We played reasonably well in the first half and just did not show up second half,” Tabor coach Don Brubacher said. “Sterling had by far the better of the play in the second half.”

Tabor had 20 shots at the Warrior goal, six in the second half. Sterling had two shots each half.

Christy Wehrman had two saves for the shutout.

The Bluejays also blanked Southwestern by a 5-0 score in Winfield Wednesday. The Moundbuilders had only two shots at the Tabor goal compared to the Bluejays’ 32.

Whitcomb opened the scoring for Tabor on an assist from Chrissy Previtera. Previtera, assisted by Dougherty, put the Bluejays up 2-0 at half.

Previtera and Dougherty also combined for the third Tabor goal. Kurtz and Becca Toews finished the scoring on assists from Stagg and Clark.

Tabor is 3-0 in KCAC play and 6-2 overall.

The Bluejays travel to Ottawa Wednesday before hosting McPherson Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and St. Mary at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10.
