Tabor soccer men shut out twice

The Tabor College men’s soccer team was shut out in a pair of games last week to nonleague opponents Avila College and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

Avila scored three first-half goals on the way to stopping the Bluejays 4-0 in Kansas City Friday. Tabor was intimidated by the hostile Avila home-field environment, according to Bluejay coach Nathan Wilkey.

“We got beat by the crowd,” Wilkey said. “We played well for about 30 minutes in the second half and that’s about it.”

The USAO Drovers blanked Tabor 5-0 in Hillsboro Tuesday, Sept. 12. USAO led 3-0 at halftime.

“We’re looking forward to getting into league play,” Wilkey said.

The Bluejays, 2-2, opened KCAC play at McPherson Tuesday. They host non-league foe York College at 4 p.m. Thursday in Hillsboro.

League opponent Sterling College comes to town for a 3 p.m. match Saturday.
