Maxwell gears up for rendezvous

The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, located six miles north of Canton, will hold its sixth annual Mountain Man “Rendezvous on the Prairie” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 and 7.

This living history event involves reenactors and storytellers, primitive tepees and tents, with individuals dressed up in 1800s style.

Tours to view the Maxwell buffalo herd will depart every hour on the hour. The tours are $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12. School or Scout groups with a teacher or leader are $3 per person.

Traders and arts and crafts exhibitors will offer items for sale. Entertainment at 10 a.m. will include Don Wagner, cowboy music and poetry.

A chuck wagon will serve buffalo burgers and other items.

Admission at the gate is $1 per person. Children under age 4 are free. For information or exhibitor booth space, call 316-628-4455.
