Hillsboro Crushes Halstead

The Hillsboro Trojans rolled to an easy 53-0 win over Halstead Friday night in Halstead. The Trojans scored early and often on the way to their second win of the season.

Jeremy Loewen scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 16-yard run with 8:04 left in the first quarter. Dan Funk scored next on a 21-yard pass from Ronn Coates. Neither extra point attempt was good, but Hillsboro led 12-0. Loewen added his second touchdown on a two-yard run as the first quarter ended. Loewen ran the two-point conversion to make the score 20-0.

The Trojans scored two more times in the second quarter. Phillip Terrell scored on a 10-yard run with 5:05 left in the half and Dan Funk scored his second touchdown of the night on a 38-yard pass from Coates. With two extra points from Sheldon Funk, Hillsboro led 34-0 at the half.

Loewen scored his third touchdown from 9 yards out and Ross Duerksen ran one in from 28 yards to make the score 47-0 after three quarters.

Finally, Alan Yoder added the Trojan’s last score on a 47-yard run with 11:39 left in the fourth period.

Coach Dustin McEwen played reserves for all of the fourth quarter and much of the third.

Hutchinson Trinity beat Canton-Galva 6-0

Hope beat Centre 20-0

Goessel beat Udall 37-0

Peabody-Burns beat Wichita Independent 21-0
