The Hillsboro Recycling Center can now accept magazines and slick paper, according to Mayor Delores Dalke.
“This is new, in addition to what they’ve been accepting in the past,” Dalke said. “We’re excited that we have a source for those items now.”
She said at present, the city is recycling 9 percent of its solid waste total, based on weight.
“We’re hoping that this will at least make up the extra 1 percent because then, according to the county contract, we should start getting a reduction (in charges) for the solid waste that goes to the transfer station,” Dalke said.
That reduction can be passed on to consumers in the form of lower city bills, she said.
The recycling center is open from 5-7 p.m. on Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
