The Florence Labor Day committee is looking for workers to help with some events for their Labor Day weekend celebration Sept. 2-4, including an expanded carnival organizers are bringing to town.
Scott Zogelman, event director, said Ray Cornelson, owner of Big Valley, has more carnival rides available to bring to Florence but usually has no one to operate them.
“He said most of them do not require too much intense training to run them, so if there are any persons age 16 or older willing to work, he would gladly hire and train them for the weekend,” Zogelman said.
More jobs are available in the aviation area. One of the new events at this year’s celebration will be helicopter rides. 2J’s Helicopter Service will be providing rides for $20 each.
“The owner of 2J’s has asked me to find him some young, athletic-type helpers whom he will pay to help him with passenger loading and unloading,” Zogelman said.
He said workers will be needed all three days of the weekend with possible training on Friday evening.
“It is not necessary they work all three days,” Zogelman said.
Workers must be at least 14 years old to qualify.
Zogelman and his committee also are organizing their own carnival-like games for anyone interested. He said the committee needs enough volunteers to operate about six different games for about 12 hours.
If each volunteer works a three-hour shift, about 24 people will be required.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. The games of chance will operate only on Monday.
Anyone interested in any of these jobs should contact Scott Zogelman on weekdays at 878-4225. Residence in Florence is not required.
