LETTERS: Becker has proven to be a caring sheriff

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN BRIAN R. OWENS – LINCOLNVILLE
I would like to let the citizens of Marion County know what a fine sheriff they have in Lee Becker. My 18-year-old daughter rolled her automobile into a ditch east of Lincolnville on July 3. My daughter was terribly shaken and sustained minor injuries. A local citizen brought my daughter home, but my wife and I were at the Marion Reservoir.

Based on the trust and confidence my daughter has in Sheriff Becker, she did not hesitate to go to his home to seek assistance from him in our absence. Even though Sheriff Becker was off duty, he took my daughter into his home, offered to seek medical attention for her, and set forth an attempt to locate my wife and me.

The on-duty deputy was notified regarding the accident. Sheriff Becker never left my daughter’s side until my wife and I were located and returned home.

An accident is a traumatic experience for anyone. If you take into consideration this was my daughter’s first accident, the automobile she received as a graduation present was totaled, and her parents weren’t home, you get a glimpse of the trauma my daughter would have experienced alone if it had not been for Sheriff Becker.

Sheriff Becker is a compassionate professional who treats the citizens of Marion County with dignity and respect. He is not a sheriff who just says he cares. His actions reflect how much he cares about people.

I would urge the citizens of Marion County to use their votes to retain a sheriff who does care and treat people professionally: Lee Becker.
