Four Hillsboro High School youth left Sunday for a week of hard work

in Baldwin City.

The four, all band students, were given the opportunity to participate

for a week in the Kansas Lions Band Camp, under the overall direction

of Ray James, director of bands at Baker University in Baldwin City.

The Hillsboro Lions Clubs are sponsoring these four students: Chelsea

D?Albini, Krista Henley and Esther Richert and Kenneth Tamatt.

After a week of intense study and practice, this Kansas Lions All

State Band of about 230 students will perform a concert for the Kansas

Lions State Convention. It will be held in the George F. Collins

Sports & Convention Center at Baker University Saturday, June 3. The

public is invited to attend.

According to Elfrieda Funk, Hillsboro, council chairman of the Kansas

Lions, ?If this concert is anything like the previous ones, it will be

fabulous! It?s amazing what the directors and students can accomplish

in one week.?

Students D?Albini, Henley, Richert and Tamatt are also looking forward

to playing in the Kansas Lions High School International Band. They

will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, for the International Lions

Convention June 18-24 with about 120 other Kansas band students.

A highlight will be playing for the second plenary session at the

convention. They will also do a lot of sightseeing and spend time on

the beach.

The Hillsboro Noon and Evening Lions Clubs are paying a portion of the

scholarships for these students.
