Real Cooking

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN JOEL KLAASSEN
I had the pleasure of having lunch with some of my HHS Class of ?64

classmates to plan for the get-together we?re having on May 27.

(Nobody told me I?d be the only guy there).

The women got to the subject of what to wear. One of them said how

about ?anything that fits.?

Holy cow. I won?t be thinking about what to wear that day until I get

up that morning.

With final exams approaching or a fresh memory for some, I am thinking

about the story of this young man who was taking a test in his

ornithology class at college.

The test consisted of each class member walking past a whole row of

stuffed birds. The birds had bags over them, except for their feet.

The object was to name each bird by looking at the feet.

This one student just couldn?t think of what any of them were, so he

got up and turned in a blank sheet of paper.

The professor looked at it and said, ?You didn?t even write one thing

down. And you didn?t write your name on it either. Who are you??

The student stopped, pulled up his pant legs a bit to show his feet

and said, ?You tell me.?

Since I?m three times older than I was when I graduated from high

school, I?d like to offer a little bit of advice for the graduates

this spring:

1. Get the best education you can afford and then find something you

like to do and don?t worry about the money.

2. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

3. Learn something new every day.

4. Have a sense of humor.

5. Pay yourself first. A steady investment even in small amounts could

make you a millionaire over time. Don?t rely on Social Security to

take care of you in the future.

Speaking of Social Security. This idea isn?t mine, but I am sure it

would work.

The way to fix social security would be to convert our U.S.

Congressmen?s and Senators? private retirement program that allows

them to receive their yearly pay until they die to the same system we

private citizens have. It would be fixed so fast we?d all be dizzy.

There is a seven-letter word in the English language that contains 10

words without rearranging any of its letters. The word is ?therein?:

the, there, he, in, rein, her, here, ere, therein, herein.
