The Goessel High School golf team won its first Heart of America
League title in only their third year of competition. The meet was
held April 25 in Pretty Prairie.
Goessel shot a team score of 368, narrowly edging Burrton with 369 and
Ell-Saline with 370.
?It seemed like we had to scratch and claw our way to our first win,?
said coach Troy Kemling. ?It is sure nice to have the first one out of
the way. We can now aim for higher goals the rest of the season.?
Jon Lawrence led the Bluebirds with an 88, which placed him seventh
among individual medalists. Jeremy Mill finished 10th at 92.
Rounding out the Bluebird four-man team score were Kenton Nickel with
a 93 and Luke Lehrman with a 95. Ben Schmidt carded a 102 and Zac
Church a 106.
Kemling praised Lawrence?s leadership on the team.
?He has played solid every meet and has learned to hang tough when his
game is off,? he said.
