Nobody in the Heart of America League could quite keep up with Berean
Academy at Friday?s league meet in Moundridge.
Area schools Canton-Galva, Peabody-Burns and Goessel came away with
some strong individual performances, but their teams finished toward
the middle of the pack.
The Eagle boys came closest to a team title, falling to Berean 117
points to 103. Peabody-Burns finished sixth with 36 points and Goessel
finished eighth out of 13 schools with 28 points.
On the girls? side, Goessel edged Canton-Galva for seventh place, 26
to 25, and Peabody-Burns finished 10th with nine. All were a far
distance behind Berean?s 115 points in first.
For the boys, Goessel?s Chad Unrau continued his dominance in the
hurdles, even though he wasn?t feeling well.
Unrau won the Bluebirds? only events on the day. He ran the 110-meter
hurdles in 15.0 and the 300-meter hurdles in 41.3. He also finished
fifth in the 100 meters.
On the girls? side, the Bluebirds? 4×800 relay team of Carmelita
Goossen, Renata Pavlikova, Rendi Cress and Amanda Woelk set a new
school record with a fifth-place time of 11:24.6.
