ORIGINALLY WRITTEN JULIE ANDERSON
The following is a summary of the issues discussed and decisions made
at the May 2 regular meeting of the Hillsboro City Council. Those
present were Mayor Delores Dalke, and council members Leonard Coryea,
Wendell Dirks, Mike Padgett and Clariece Schroeder. The council:
— approved adjusting the water bill for 110 N. Adams, owned by Vernon
Henry, to its normal amount. Water had been leaking into the sewer and
the leak was not detected immediately.
— approved an ordinance changing the zoning at 316 N. Cedar from
medium density residential to light industrial.
— decided to have the attorney make changes in the water purchase
contract with Rural Water District No. 5, including the maintenance
and insurance. The agreement will be approved once the changes are
made.
— approved pay estimates and engineering statements for the
Centennial Street entrance. The amounts due were $35,461 for the work
and materials used, $1,409 for the final engineering fee and $3,274
for inspection services.
— was told the entrance road into Lot 21 in Industrial Park was
nearly complete. The only thing left is to place the asphalt on it,
which will be done when it is warmer.
— heard concerns that had been expressed about the crosswalks at the
elementary school and placing ?No bicycle? signs on the streets
downtown.
— was given bids on the work to be done on D Street. Council members
approved the low bid of $202,645. They also asked for more information
on what it would cost to have the same company do the striping on the
other roads in town.
— approved paying the initial fee of $17,476 for the engineering on D
Street.
— approved entering an agreement with the Kansas League of
Municipalities for the services it offers after their lawyer has
looked at the agreement. It is a contract with the league executive
position search.
— turned in the city superintendent?s evaluations. The information
will be compiled then review
