Goessel entered two athletes in the K.T. Woodman Track Meet in Wichita Friday, and both placed in this highly competitive event.

Chad Unrau won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.16 seconds according to the fully automated timing system and 15.92 by hand-held watch.

He also won the 300m hurdles in 42.39 (FAT) and 42.15 (hand-held watch).

FAT is longer by .24 seconds because it eliminates the human reaction time when the starting gun is fired.

Unrau finished third in the long jump with a leap of 19-61/2.

Lyndl Duerksen finished third in both the 1,600 meters and the 800 meters. He finished the 1,600 in 5:51.87 (FAT) and the 800 in 2:07.17.

?On a very windy day, we had a pretty good showing with the two boys we brought,? coach Brian Stucky said. ?Lyndl knocked 15 seconds off his year?s best time in the 1,600, and Chad maintained his position as 1A state leader in the hurdles.?

Halstead?Despite Unrau?s four first-place medals, the Goessel boys finished a distant second to Halstead at the Halstead Quad last Tuesday.

Unrau won the 110-meter and and 300-meter hurdles, long jump and 100 meters.

Duerksen, meanwhile, won the 1,600 and 800.

Tara Goerzen in the discus and the 4×100 team won the only golds for the girls. Halstead easily won the meet with 1341/2 points while Goessel came next with 56.

?Our girls are continuing to discover new events and hidden talents,? Stucky said. ?Beating Halstead?s 4x100m relay was a real highlight for the meet.?

Goessel was to compete in the Little River Quad at Hillsboro yesterday. They will participate in the Halstead Invitational Thursday.
