?Public Health Week? attract participants for free services, programs and prizes

?Public Health Week? at the Marion County Health Department attracted a number of people throughout the week .



On Tuesday, 14 free water screenings were done by David Brazil, county sanitarian.



On Wednesday, 95 immunizations were given to children and 48 to adults.



On Friday, 28 people showed up for blood pressure, dextrose and hemoglobin checks.



Also during the week, Maxine Burch, chronic disease risk coordinator, presented programs on ?10 Steps to Good Health? to more than 200 third graders and ?Tobacco Use Prevention? to more than 200 fourth graders.



Throughout the week, department personnel gave away door prizes.



The winners were: Angela Thornbrugh, Marion, child?s safety kit; Jim Wiederstein, Marion, free water screening; Rochelle Jirak, Tampa, bicycle helmet; Bonnie Schmidt, Marion, adult nutrition basket; Connie Jenkins, Lost Springs, child nutrition basket; Cory Gleeson, Hillsboro, infant bathing tub; and Rose Funk, Hillsboro, smoke detector.



Grand prize winners were Breanne Killough, Marion, toddlers? reading books; Arlene Giesel, Burns, young children?s reading books; Linda Holub, Marion, homemade baby quilt; and Joan Watkins, Marion, bath and body gift set.



Kerry Maag, Marion, was the winner of the Marion County Health Department Trivia Quiz, and received a basket of Kansas-made products.



The health department plans to make this an annual event.
