Hospitals announce additional activities for health fair

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
The Marion County health fair, called ?Healthy Choices for a Healthy County,? will offer a number of services and information to the public.

The American Red Cross Blood Service will have the Donor Express unit at the fair. The unit accommodates 21 donors.

According to Red Cross officials, the bloodmobile will be in Hillsboro April 26. Because of its success and popularity, it will be brought back on the day of the health fair.

The donation time is typically 30 to 45 minutes. Appointments may be made.

The Via Christi Mammogram Van also will be at the health fair. The cost is $65, which includes the exam and radiology interpretation. It is recommended to make appointments ahead of time.

For those who qualify, Medicare covers the cost of a mammogram, but Medicare patients must have an appointment.

The HCMC Social Services Director will be at the fair providing information on advance directives including durable powers of attorney for health care and living wills.

People can bring in completed forms to be notarized, but the forms have to be signed in the presence of the notary.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call St. Luke in Marion at 316-382-2177 or Hillsboro Community Medical Center at 947-3114.
