To raise public awareness about prevention of child abuse and neglect, the Marion County Health Department, 230 E. Main, Marion, is offering various child abuse prevention materials.

April is ?Child Abuse Prevention Month.? Each year more than three million children in the United States are reported abused or neglected.

Although the nation?s overall crime rate fell more than 21 percent from 1993 to 1993, reports of child abuse and neglect grew by 9 percent and confirmed cases increased by 3 percent, according to Prevent Child Abuse America.

This year?s theme is ?Teaming Up to Keep Kids…Safe at Home.?

People are encouraged to go in and pick up materials to share with others in the community.
