Rain biggest winner over spring break

The spring break road trip for the Tabor College baseball team was cut short last week half of their games were called due to weather.

?The trip was shorter than we wanted because of weather,? said coach Gary Myers.

The Bluejays opened play against LeTourneau University last Tuesday and spit a doubleheader.

In the opener, Tabor fell 2-1, as the Bluejays could only manage six hits.

?We lost a heart breaker in the first game,? said Myers. ?Randy Ables pitched a three-hitter and did a wonderful job, but we could not score.?

Chris Stucky led Tabor with two hits and a run scored.

In the second game the Bluejays came back from a 5-3 deficit, by scoring four runs in the seventh inning.

In that inning, Ables had two RBIs and Kris Haynes and Tim Carroll each had one.

Ables and Haynes each finished the game with two hits.

Freshman Danny Douglas kept Tabor in the game with a complete game win. Douglas scattered nine hits and gave only one earned run.

The next night, Tabor faced Wiley College and lost 11-4 in a game that saw Tabor commit seven errors.

?I was disappointed in our play,? said Myers. ?We made some errors and we let them run the bases too much.

?We need to improve our fielding,? he added. ?We cannot give them four or five outs per inning.?

Stucky continued to hit the ball well, going 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.
