A group of about two dozen Marion County residents attending an exploratory meeting Monday at the Stone City Cafe in Marion agreed to proceed with the formation of a lake association to promote and enhance Marion County Lake and Marion Reservoir.

The idea was first suggested by the Marion County Economic Development Council as a way to make better use of the lakes and attract more visitors to the county.

Warren Kreutziger, Marion, will gather bylaws and organizational documents from lake association in Cheney and Topeka.

The new association to be formed will pattern itself after other ones.

The group, which included members of the MCEDC and representatives and interested people from both lakes, discussed several topics:

— Working together to improve the habitat for fishing by adding more brush piles to the lake.

— Working to obtain funding and grants from state and federal funds for lake projects to be determined.

— Holding fishing tournaments at both lakes.

— Promoting the lakes on the Internet.
