Tabor loses two baseball games to nationally ranked Newman

After hanging in early in both games, the Tabor College Baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Newman University last week.

Both games were close early, but Newman took command late in the games and won by identical scored of 12-2.

?In both games we played them tough for the first three or four innings,? said head coach Gary Myers. ?They are a very good ball team. I think they are in the top 20 in the country.?

Kris Haynes continued his hot hitting, going three for four with a run scored. Josh Parks connected on two hits and two RBIs.

The Bluejays started two freshmen on the mound and both pitched well the first time through the order.

In the first game, the score was tied at 2 going into the fourth inning. Newman put up 10 runs in their half of the fourth to take command.

The second game followed the same pattern, as Tabor stayed close until they gave up several late-inning runs.

?We pitched a lot of kids,? Myers said. ?Our starters pitched well.?

The Bluejays are hoping for the quick return of second baseman Brian Morris, who has been out since off-season knee surgery. He has been cleared to play this week.

?Brian will help us when he is ready to play,? Myers said.

Four other games for Tabor were postponed due to weather. Tabor will host Northwestern on Saturday. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
