Lieutenant Gov. Gary Sherrer (fifth from left) was part of an eight-member panel that heard requests for 21 proposed road projects during a Kansas Department of Transportation hearing held at Tabor College Feb. 29. The panel listened to presentations on the benefits and economic impact each project would have on surrounding areas. McPherson presented two projects. The first proposed would make K-61 Highway a four-lane road from McPherson to Hutchinson. The other project called for a bypass around McPherson. Both projects, if approved, would be expected to increase traffic around McPherson and have a positive impact on U.S. Highway 56 traffic past Hillsboro, according to Hillsboro Mayor Delores Dalke.
