HHS girls in sub-state championship

The Hillsboro High School girls’ basketball team got off to such a quick start Friday night against Osage City that the Trojans’ mediocre play in the second half didn’t derail their easy 58-35 victory.

The Trojans led 29-14 at the half. The game was within 12 points throughout much of the second half, but Hillsboro had too much firepower down the stretch and used a balanced attack to nail down the win.

The Trojans were led in scoring by Jill Hein with 14 points, followed by Angela and Shannon Kroeker with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Angela Kroeker scored eight of her 12 points in the first quarter to help the Trojans build an early advantage.

With the win, Hillsboro advances to the championship game against Northern Heights, who defeated Southeast of Saline in the other semifinal match-up 70-48.

The girls’ game will take place at 6 p.m. The boys’ game featuring Hillsboro and Osage City is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. or 20 minutes after the finish of the girls’ game.
