First HWBA bowling event for county teams called a success

Peabody Lanes won first place in the team competition at the Hillsboro Women Bowlers Association tournament held this Friday through Sunday in Hillsboro.



This was the first year the HWBA tournament was open to county teams, according to Virginia Martens, tournament director and HWBA secretary.



?Since our leagues have diminished somewhat, we decided to invite teams from around the county,? she said.



The Peabody team received $66 in prize money for their team score of 3,149 pins. Pizza Hut of Marion won $44 for second place with 3,080 overall pins. Eight teams participated in the event.



In individual results, Becky Hamm and Sondra Bezdek won the $28 first-prize in doubles competition with 1,239 pins. Anita Moore and Gloria Seifert won $23.75 for second place at 1,219, Milly Cress abd Marilyn Carlson won $19.50 for third at 1,218 and Dalene Jost and Betty Clegg won $16.75 for fourth for 1,209 pins.



In singles competition, Dina Vogel won $19.50 for first place with a score of 634 pins. Brenda Reimer won $16 for second at 630 pins, Louise Rahe won $14 for third at 617, Shawn Voth won $12.25 for fourth at 614, Kathy Bernhardt and Gerry Ewert each won $9.63 for tying for fifth at 610, and Sue Svitak took home $7 for seventh at 608.



In the all-events competition, Dina Vogel won the championship and $13.50 for a score of 1,863. She was followed by Kathy Bernhardt, who won $11.25 for second at $11.25, Milly Cress $9.50 for third at 1,827, Mistina Miller and Brenda Reimer split $15.65 for tying for fourth at 1,807, and Becky Hamm picked up $6 for finishing sixth with 1,802 pins.



In addition to prize money, bowlers received prizes provided by local business for various accomplishments during the tournament, Martens said.
