Enrollment for oilseeds payment program set for late February

Enrollment for the oilseeds payment program will be from Feb. 28 through March 31 at the Marion County Farm Service Agency office.

Producers file one application for all of their oilseed crops, such as soybeans and sunflowers, farming interests and apply in the county officer where the producer?s farm records are maintained. Only producers who planted an oilseed crop in 1999 are allowed to participate in the program. A program payment is equal to the selected acreage planted in either 1997 or 1998 for established producer times the producer?s selected payment yield times the national payment rate, determined by the secretary of agriculture.

Projected rates are 14 cents per bushel for soybeans, 25.5 cents per cwt. for sunflowers and 25 cents per bushel for canola. Actual payments may be higher or lower.

Eligible producers must be in conservation compliance with croplands on their farms.
