Bluejay women continue to struggle

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN BY JIM PAULUS
The Tabor women?s offensive struggles reached a new low Saturday against Bethel as the Bluejays managed only 31 against their KCAC rivals Saturday who scored 60.

?The two numbers that jump out at you are the 21 percent shooting and the 27 turnovers,? said coach Matt Krebs. ?You are not going to score a lot with those numbers.?

Tabor finished the first half with a season low nine points and trailed 26-9. Although they showed some improvement in the second, the Bluejays finished with only 10 field goals on the night in route to their 25th loss of the season against a single win.

Bethel had three players in double digits, led by Hillsboro native Ruth Harder, who had a game-high 19 points. Erin Huebert and DonLouise Martens had 14 and 10, points.

Susan Carter led Tabor with nine points and eight rebounds.

Kansas Wesleyan? After leading at the half for the first time this year, the Bluejays could not hold on and dropped another conference game to Kansas Wesleyan 73-60.

Tabor held the Coyotes to 29 percent shooting in the first half and took a lead by three going into halftime.

After going 0-for-7 from behind the arc in the first half, Kansas Wesleyan used their long-range shooting to take control of the game in the second half.

The Coyotes shot an improved 52 percent and were 6-for-9 from 3-point range.

The Bluejays stayed close and were within one with four minutes to play.

?We were in the game with four minutes left, but could not make the plays necessary to win,? said Krebs. ?Part of this is that we are an inexperienced team.?

Freshman Mandi Whitehead chalked up a season-high 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Tabor.

?Mandi has improved throughout the year and is starting to play up to her capabilities,? Krebs said.

The Bluejays host Southwestern on Saturday and McPherson on Monday to finish their season. Their best chance for a conference win will be against the Bullpups, who are 1-21 overall and 1-12 in the KCAC. Their only win was against Tabor.
