HMS girls end season

The Hillsboro Middle School girls? basketball teams ended their seasons this past week.

The eighth graders finished Monday night in a 31-13 loss to Haven in the first round of the MCAA league tournament.

Danielle Kelley, Danielle Goossen and Cierra Ediger scored four points each for Hillsboro in the contest.

Sterling?It was a two-of-three Thursday for the HMS girl?s teams as the Trojans ended their regular season at Sterling.

The eighth-graders kept their game close throughout the first half, but were outscored in the third period 13-4 and lost the contest 36-23.

Danielle Goossen led Hillsboro with eight points. Katie Fast scored four, Cierra Ediger three and Mindy Munguya, Danielle Kelley, Steph King and Trichia Pauls added two each.

The seventh-grade team scored the first win of the night with a 25-22 win behind 10 points from Emily Ratzlaff. Emily Railsback scored four in the decisive fourth quarter to help the Trojans to the win.

Hillsboro, which ended their season with a 9-5 record, trailed 18-17 heading into the final period, but held Sterling to just four points.

Railsback finished with six points, followed by Amy Duerksen with five and Sara Hamm with four.

In the C-team game, Hillsboro trailed 12-7 at the half, but outscored Sterling 16-6 in the second half en route to a 23-18 win.

Erin Wiebe led Hillsboro with six points and Steph Loewen added five. Katie Baltzer chipped in three, followed by Sara Buller, Whitney Washmon, Kirsten Cederberg and Jess Vannocker with two each and Niki Streeter with one.
