The Goessel High School forensics team took third place Feb. 5 at Maize.

Sara Hill and Marla Bedlington placed second in duet act, which also qualified them for state.

All of Goessel?s duet acts made it to finals. Sara Ratzlaff and Katherine Krehbiel placed third and Ben Schmidt and Tara Goerzen placed fifth.

In other events, Peter Goerzen placed fifth and Ben Schmidt was eighth in informative speaking and Carmelita Goossen placed sixth in poetry.

Tara Goerzen placed fourth and Jill Schmidt was seventh in dramatic interpretation.

Bethany Amstutz placed fourth in prose and Shawn Rath placed seventh in humorous interpretation.

Jeff Franzen and Katie Schroeder also contributed to the sweepstakes trophy.

Coach Leann Toews said this meet was different because it is the only one where seventh- and eighth-place medals are awarded.

?I was just elated with the way the kids did on Saturday,? Toews said. ?They should be extremely proud of themselves. I certainly am.?
