Partly Nonsense

We just returned from Atlanta. We had to see our grandson Alex, who just turned 2. He was great fun to be with and we enjoyed every minute of our time there with him and his parents.

We discovered again why most people have kids while they are young. Except for night and a few naps here and there, he was nonstop activity and talking to himself and whomever would listen.

My mission while there was to help assemble an entertainment center and a seven-drawer chest of drawers.

These were the knock-down kind with tons of hardware all dumped together in a plastic bag.

Son-in-law George and I assembled the entertainment center first on his day off. Alex and I did the chest the second day. He was very busy getting screws and putting them in every predrilled hole he could find. He kept saying ?I working hard.?

Toward the end of the project, we were a few screws short, but I figured it would stay together just the same.

Alex also likes to empty his bank every day and put the money back in. The next day we dumped out the bank and guess what? There were the screws we were missing.

If you watched CNN last week, you probably saw Storm Watch 2000 that was going on in Georgia. As early as Wednesday, they were predicting snow and freezing rain for Friday.

So by Thursday they called off school in anticipation of the big storm. On Friday, there was no snow and no rain. The kids had a good time, though.

They did have some ice on the roads on Saturday, just in time for our trip home. To keep Amy from having to drive us to the airport, we took MARTA, the public transit train, to the airport. We thought it would save some hassle.

Boy, did we guess wrong. A trip that normally takes about 20 minutes took an hour and a half and the plane was pulling out just as we arrived at the gate.

We were packed into that train like sardines. Two times it stopped and we were told to get off and wait for the next train which was more crowded than the one we just left.

Hillsboro and its one stoplight looks pretty good right now.
