Goossen sparks comeback win against Halstead

Danielle Goossen had her most productive game of the season, scoring 13 points, to lead the Hillsboro Middle School girls to a 28-17 win over Halstead Thursday night.

Hillsboro (3-4) trailed 9-7 at the half, with Goossen producing the Trojans? only points. The Trojans slipped into the lead by a point after three quarters, then outscored their guests 13-2 in the final period to nail down the victory.

Mindy Munguya added five points for Hillsboro, Katie Fast and Steph King each had four, and Cierra Ediger added two.

The HMS seventh-grade team broke open a tight game with a 16-4 burst in the second quarter and went on to thump Halstead 28-14.

Emily Ratzlaff scored eight points to lead the Trojans (6-1) and Charity Davis added six. Heather Stepanek scored four points, Sara Hamm and Sarah Prieb each scored three, and Amy Duerksen and Marissa Diener two for Hillsboro.

The HMS C-team defeated Halstead 11-9. Katie Baltzer scored four, Erin Wiebe, Kirsten Cederberg and Jess Vannocker each scored two and Niki Streeter added a free throw for Hillsboro.

The girls? next games will be Thursday in Ellinwood. The following Monday they play at Hesston.
